Harry Clarke's Surreal Vision, 1922
A figure reclines in pure wonder, surrounded by ornate swirls and impossible geometry that seem to shift as you look. Clarke created this in 1922, blending graphite, ink, watercolour and glazes into something neither quite real nor entirely fantastical.
About the Artist
Harry Clarke (1889–1931) was Dublin's greatest illustrator, a visionary who transformed the page into theatre. Self-taught largely through obsession, he built a studio reputation that stretched across Europe while remaining rooted in Irish craft. Clarke died at 41, leaving behind a body of work that still feels ahead of its time.
