Michael Angelo Hayes painted Sackville Street around 1853 — the street now called O’Connell Street, crowded with horse-drawn carriages, omnibuses and pedestrians.
At the heart of the artwork stands the iconic Nelson's Pillar, a 40-metre-high monument that once dominated the Dublin skyline before its removal in 1966. Today, its place is taken by the Spire of Dublin.
