If you've ever watched the Dublin coast fade into the distance — from a plane window, a ferry deck, or a last look over your shoulder — you know this view.
Killiney Bay, Looking Towards Bray
Francis S. Walker painted this in 1904. The bay is calm. The Wicklow hills sit hazy on the horizon. The light is that particular Dublin grey-silver that doesn't exist anywhere else on earth. It's a painting about stillness — and about a coastline that gets under your skin and stays there.
This print is for anyone who carries Ireland with them, wherever they ended up.
Hangs in the National Gallery of Ireland. This is a work of national standing, not a decorative print.
About Francis S. Walker
Francis S. Walker (1848–1916) spent his life studying Irish light and coastal form. He painted during a period when Irish artists were reclaiming their own landscapes as subjects worthy of serious attention — not as picturesque scenery for outside observers, but as places with real weight and meaning.
His work remains largely unknown outside Ireland. Owning it is a quiet act of reclamation.
